Can Dogs Eat Avocado?

🥑
⚠ Toxic — Moderate Risk

Contains persin. Causes vomiting, diarrhoea. Pit is choking hazard.

Why Avocado Should Be Avoided

Avocado contains persin, a fungicidal toxin found in the leaves, skin, pit, and flesh. While the flesh contains lower levels and is less dangerous than other parts, it can still cause vomiting and diarrhoea in dogs. The bigger risk is the large pit, which is a serious choking and intestinal blockage hazard. The high fat content can also trigger pancreatitis in susceptible dogs. While some dog foods contain avocado oil (which has minimal persin), it is best to avoid feeding whole avocado to dogs.
