Can Dogs Eat Caffeine?

✗ Toxic — Dangerous

Coffee, tea, energy drinks. Heart palpitations, seizures.

Why Caffeine Is Dangerous

Caffeine is toxic to dogs in a similar way to theobromine in chocolate. Sources include coffee, tea, energy drinks, cola, caffeine pills, and some medications. Dogs are much more sensitive to caffeine than humans — a few laps of coffee can cause symptoms in small dogs. Signs include restlessness, rapid breathing, heart palpitations, muscle tremors, and seizures, typically within 1-2 hours. There is no antidote for caffeine poisoning — treatment is supportive. Keep all caffeinated products out of reach.
