Can Dogs Eat Cherry Pits?

🍒
⚠ Toxic — Moderate Risk

Contain cyanide. Flesh is safe, remove pit completely.

Why Cherry Pits Should Be Avoided

Cherry pits contain cyanide compounds and are a significant choking and intestinal blockage hazard. The pit is large relative to the cherry and can easily become lodged in a dog's intestines. If a dog cracks open the pit, the cyanide-containing compounds are released. Cherry flesh is technically safe, but the risk from the pit makes cherries a poor treat choice. Maraschino cherries should also be avoided due to high sugar content.
