Why Currants Is Dangerous
Currants — including blackcurrants, redcurrants, and dried Zante currants — carry the same toxicity risk as grapes and raisins. They can cause acute kidney failure in dogs. Dried currants are particularly dangerous because the toxin is concentrated. They are commonly found in scones, hot cross buns, Christmas cake, and trail mix. There is no known safe amount. Contact your vet immediately if your dog eats any product containing currants.
