If in doubt, always call your vet or the Animal Poison Line immediately.
Why It's Dangerous
Beer contains ethanol, which affects a dog's central nervous system much more strongly than a person's due to their smaller body size and different metabolism. Hops, sometimes used in home brewing, add a separate and more severe risk of malignant hyperthermia.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Vomiting
- Disorientation and lack of coordination
- Lethargy
- Low body temperature
- Slowed breathing in severe cases
Vet Guidance
Contact your vet if more than a lick or small spill was consumed. Keep your dog warm and monitor closely; severe cases need emergency treatment.
