Why It's Dangerous
Chilli powder contains a concentrated dose of capsaicin, the compound that irritates the mouth, stomach, and intestines. Because it's a fine powder, it can also cause more diffuse irritation across the mouth and airways if inhaled.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Excessive drooling
- Pawing at the mouth or face
- Coughing or sneezing if inhaled
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
