Why It's Dangerous

Death cap mushrooms contain amatoxins, which cause severe, often fatal liver failure. Symptoms are frequently delayed by many hours after ingestion, by which point significant internal damage may have already occurred.

Symptoms to Watch For

  • Severe vomiting and diarrhoea (often delayed several hours)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Lethargy progressing over 1-2 days
  • Jaundice and signs of liver failure
  • Seizures or coma in advanced cases

Vet Guidance

Treat as a veterinary emergency immediately, even before symptoms appear, if death cap ingestion is known or suspected - do not wait for signs to develop.
