If in doubt, always call your vet or the Animal Poison Line immediately.
Why It's Dangerous
Garlic powder is a highly concentrated form of garlic, containing the same thiosulphate compounds that damage red blood cells but at a much higher density per gram than fresh garlic. It's a common, easy-to-overlook ingredient in seasoning blends and homemade treats.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Weakness and lethargy
- Pale gums
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Increased heart rate
- Collapse in severe cases
Vet Guidance
Contact your vet, especially given how concentrated garlic powder is compared to fresh garlic. Symptoms of anaemia may not appear for several days.
