If in doubt, always call your vet or the Animal Poison Line immediately.
Why It's Dangerous
Milk chocolate contains theobromine, but at a lower concentration than dark or baking chocolate. It still overstimulates the heart and nervous system, and dogs process it much more slowly than people do, so a large enough amount is still dangerous.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Vomiting and diarrhoea
- Restlessness
- Increased thirst and urination
- Rapid heart rate
- Tremors with larger amounts
Vet Guidance
Contact your vet with the amount and type eaten. Milk chocolate needs a larger dose than dark chocolate to cause serious harm, but any sizeable amount, especially in a small dog, warrants a call.
