If in doubt, always call your vet or the Animal Poison Line immediately.

Why It's Dangerous

Cooking palm oil is high in saturated fat and can cause digestive upset or pancreatitis in large amounts, similar to other fats. Ornamental or raw palm oil blocks (sometimes used in bird feeding) are a different, harder substance that can cause blockages.

Symptoms to Watch For

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Lethargy
  • Abdominal pain (pancreatitis signs)
  • Signs of blockage if solid ornamental palm oil was eaten

Vet Guidance

Check which type of palm oil was involved. Cooking oil ingestion needs monitoring for pancreatitis; solid ornamental palm fat blocks need a vet check for blockage risk.
