If in doubt, always call your vet or the Animal Poison Line immediately.

Why It's Dangerous

Peanut butter cups combine chocolate (theobromine) with peanut butter, which may itself contain xylitol in some sugar-free brands. This creates a compounded risk of both theobromine and, potentially, xylitol toxicity.

Symptoms to Watch For

  • Restlessness, rapid heart rate, tremors (theobromine)
  • If xylitol present: collapse, weakness, seizures
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Vet Guidance

Treat as an emergency and contact your vet immediately - the chocolate content alone is a concern, and some brands' peanut butter may also contain xylitol.
