Why It's Dangerous
All parts of the yew tree except the fleshy red berry coating are highly toxic, containing taxine alkaloids that cause severe cardiac arrhythmias. The seed inside the berry, along with the needles and bark, are the most dangerous parts.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Sudden collapse
- Muscle tremors
- Difficulty breathing
- Seizures
- Sudden death from cardiac arrest, sometimes with minimal prior warning signs
Vet Guidance
Treat as a critical emergency and get to a vet immediately - yew is one of the most acutely dangerous plants for dogs, and cardiac effects can occur with very little warning.
