Can Dogs Eat Marmite?

Marmite is a yeast extract spread that's extremely concentrated in salt, far more so than most foods a dog would typically encounter, which makes it worth taking seriously despite coming in a small jar. A thin scraping on toast that a dog steals is unlikely to be a problem, but a dog that gets into the jar itself and eats several spoonfuls directly is consuming a genuinely large dose of sodium for their size. This is another one of those foods that doesn't look obviously dangerous the way chocolate does, but the salt concentration alone puts it in a similar risk category to eating a large amount of stock cubes or a very salty snack. If your dog has eaten Marmite directly from the jar rather than just a smear on food, it's worth contacting your vet and making sure they have access to fresh water.
