Why Plum Pits Should Be Avoided
Like other stone fruit pits, plum pits contain cyanide compounds and pose a blockage risk. The sharp edges of a crushed plum pit can also cause internal damage to the mouth, oesophagus, or intestines. Plum flesh is safe in small amounts, but remove the pit entirely. Dried plums (prunes) are not toxic but can cause significant diarrhoea due to their high fibre and sorbitol content.
